Memory Clearing
Following the collapse of the Polcevera viaduct, the area beneath was returned to the city with a new identity: not only a place of commemoration, but an open and active public space. The Memory Clearing was created with the aim of combining remembrance and urban function, hosting cultural events, meetings, educational activities, and an information point coordinated by local associations.
Designed as a gathering place for citizens, schools, and visitors, the square required a surface consistent with its purpose: orderly, stable, and suitable for sustaining continuous flows and diverse uses. The previous gravel finish had proven inadequate, limiting the accessibility and usability of the space.
HiSkin participated in the redevelopment of the area by treating over 4,000 sq m of paving with the HiSkin Drain permeable concrete system.
The system, developed in the HiSkin research laboratory and applied according to a specific installation protocol, ensures mechanical resistance and finish quality, proving suitable for both pedestrian areas and light vehicular use. The highly porous structure allows natural permeation of rainwater into the subsoil, eliminating the need for surface drainage systems and contributing to more efficient public space management.
The intervention made it possible to define a continuous and functional surface, capable of supporting over time the collective life of a place of high symbolic value.
